So far in this battle I'm looking back at the history of both microprocessor companies to see for every generation of cpu is it true that amd had the consumer in mind and intel had money and world monopolizing as a goal. and these to conspiracy theories may make all the difference in everything we have purchase that last 20 years or so. I wil come out with part 2 soon with some info.

Learning New Skills

I'm fresh out from learning some new skills. I just learned to program a 555 timer so I can continue on with my next projects. It took about 2 hours to learn all of that of course most of it is written down in the handy dandy notebook. Tommorow I will begin to talk about this project. A hint is this is gonna be a big one because most of my other planned projects are on hold for this one. I would have posted about it today But due to some technical complications that was not possible.

Zune HD Portable Perfection, or Fail

So far I've been disappointed with the Zune HD due to failure rates and also other small nit picky issues I have with it. I might stay away from this a little while longer maybe next year. Maybe for now I might get a PSP and work on some mods for that. In Case you weren't aware The PSP does all the same things as a Ipod touch or Zune Hd and in most cases does it better. I Want a PSP for the dual analog mod and the emulator mods. I also like gaming on the go I often am playing a game on my phone when I'm at restaurants or otherwise places when I have time to kill. The Zune HD is a disappointment to me They don't have enough support behind it and not nearly enough marketing. They should have stopped trying to one-up the Ipod touch by adding all this extra stuff so therefore they forgot the most important part: The player itself. They should have waited a while before the put it on shelves. We would have waited if Microsoft had released it with a strong line up of apps to compete with ipod touch. I also would have liked it if they thought to add support right in for windows mobile apps which would have right away caught them up to ipod app store. Otherwise they should have got a few developers to come out with about 10 apps that were all diverse and provided for free to give us a taste of what's possible. I can look past a whole host of things when it comes to the Zune. The commercials before the games load up it makes the whole experience feel wrong. it's flat out startling to me to see a commercial for KIA when trying to play a cheesy game. Some say as long as it's for free but come on the most powerful company in the world next to Exxon does not need a commercial to provide something for free. Think about it if they are shameless enough to do that what else are they going to do later down the road. have commercials and previews in the middle of listening to albums from the zune store? I don't get either why microsoft just is incapable of releasing things that actually work. The zune has had a concerning failure rate for so few people to have bought it. Oled screens are already failing! REALLY?! Really the oled wasn't necessary. I've seen LCD screens with just as good contrast. Ive watched whole movies on my cell phone and the screen looks very nice on that. I really don't get the O.S. decision. Here's why: the one big problem with the Zune HD o.s., even thought on the skin it's very responsive and snappy and quick thanks to the tegra chipset included, but the major problem is that the O.S. is very limited and to me just feels shallow. Really all they should have done was take windows mobile 7 add multi touch put the little 3d interface to show off tegra that's nice I like that, Expand on the media player and give wpm mobile some upgrades tie it in to the homescreen add some depth to the media player and adjust video playback. If they did that 70% of the zune hd's problems would have been solved. The app store would have been easier to build up. There would have been a deeper os. Basically I'm saying I would have been happy with the zune hd with winmo 6.1 with multi touch support and a Media player on steroids and of course the improved web browser. That WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT TO ME. The screen issues wouldn't be as bad if it weren't for the fact that the screen is the products major selling point. we would expect the screen issues to be worked out. I hope it'll all be worked out by next year but for now I'll stay away from the zune hd.

Lockerz.com first impressions

The object of this site is for it to become the next social networking giant like myspace and facebook. They are using a gimmick to reward members with prizes for now. so jump on quick before it's too late. it's reasonably easy to get points it isn't as difficult as other survey sites out there. It's invite only which makes it kind of exclusive. You can get a minimum of 4 points each day just by signing in and answering the daily question. after you've done so you get to points for each. so within a months time you can rack up 120 points by visiting the site each day. you can double that if you invite more than 20 people. I will invite a few peeps to join of course. for as long as this keeps going I will sure milk it. I want a psp of there. and I will see if i can get a little treat to giveaway.

USB Fan So Many Practical Uses

To make the USB fan Just grab any usb cable. All usb connections carry 5 volts always. The idea of this mod is to use those 5 volts for something useful, to power a fan. Take a fan and any old usb able, obviously a cheap one not some $20(sucker must be written on your forehead to pay that much) monster cable or something. Actually that's how companies can get the highest profit cables cost less than a buck to make then it's flopped and your pay 10 dollars, but that's for another time. Next just go ahead and splice one of the ends off of the cable hopefully you should see the ground cable and a red and black cable at least, for a normal cable there should be for wires but some only have 2. A typical fan has three cables on it a molex fan might have 4. Look for the red and the black cables on both the fan and the usb connector. simply connect the red to red and the black to black. It's that easy! now just plug it in an the fan blades should spin. that's all look at the picture and you can see the one I made hooked up to the IBM P.O.S. Simply as clean up you could definitely put some heatshrink on it but that's optional as long as a complete circuit is always made it will be fine. :-)

I ain't missin much

I feel a little better about not having a Zune now because Microsoft isn't doing much now. I am safe to wait until next month. I also want to see what the deal is with the OLED screens because It will drastically hurt the device to not be viewable in sunlight. Also I know the whole major buzz about Organic.Light.Emitting.Diode. is it is environmentally friendly and it degrades. I am interested in seeing how that rolls. I don't want to buy a shiny new Zune HD and 2 years later the screen is mysteriously fading away. We'll find out together because the OLED might be the best piece of tech, or the worst piece of crap. OLED technology could easily be the biggest flop f all time that is until they perfect it. The Zune HD totes a 480x272 ( to some that's crappy but it's good enough for me it still beats the heck out of my phone display, I hope) A. ctive M. atrix O. rganic L. ight E. mitting D. iode display. I also think that Microsoft really used Zune HD as a place holder because using a screen that they know will degrade only means one thing. keep your eyes out for more new Zunes on the way they don't intend on us keeping this one long also evidenced buy the low price( I would have liked to see $150 but...) And not to mention that Zune HD is only a U.S> release. let's see I know something way bigger is coming from Microsoft next year as far as PMP goes.

Zune HD tommorow I only got $50! WTF!

wel that didn't quite work out how I planned so I won't get my hands on it until next month most likely. Thats fine though because I will get one with any first batch bugs worked out. Peace out.

Bike speakers 5 minutes and duck tape

With 5 minutes and duck tape I made our first true project. When I removed the back cover from some PC speakers I saw a power converter. 120v ac(I'm in the us) to 9v. I took a 9v battery from a smoke detector(forget safety!) and used a strip of duct tape to attach the wire leads to the battery. then I took some of my speakers( 5 1/2 inch Harmon Kardon Subwoofer and a 6x9 from a Pontiac Sunfire. I then experimented and bridged the speaker amp( for a whopping 4 watts rms! XD) and hooked it up to the Subwoofer. then all of this was duct taped to the Schwinn stingray. this project was only a proof of concept. This is far from the end of this project this was just a proof of concept my next step is making this permanent and more clean.

First Day of School

I survived my first day and found some interesting things. Like our notebooks have corporate sponsors now. Anyway more on topic I am on my way to getting a zune hd however my headphones project is on hold and I'm going to accomplish something else I'm gonna work on those leather cases mostly to get them out of the floor. I definately will get a chance to do this projector project.

Got Some Leds.

My keyboard died today T_T. After I got threw complainig about having to use the Keyboard That My IBM ThinkCenter came with which is extremely inferior to my other keyboard. I have To Wait until next summer to get some cash flow or maybe instead of my PS3 slim I can see how for I can get with $500 on my planned phenom II x3 ATI Crossfire Set-up and 4 gig of ram. The Biggest Issue Is I want A better Monitor than This piece I have Now(HOLD THAT THOUGHT) But ain't gonna happen with this dang old economy. However my impatience and desperation Will Definately Lead to another Project.(DID you hold he thought my next project is I'm gonna try To Build one one of those projectors they make wth crt monitoprs a box and a fresnel lens, and see how full of crap that it is.)

Project Update

As an update to my head phones project i finally have it all sorted out on how to finish what I started. My course of acions will be a simple vacuum forming machine. This will be perfect for shaping the intricate pices of my project. When I finnally get to that I will closely blog it.

Got Some Leather

I sacrificed An Old jacket for the Leather(supposedly leather) to use For my headphones project To make some nice padding. Not only that but the white leather sections are on deck to be resurrected to make some nice case for future projects. I don't have a picture of it because I haven't done anything with it yet. My side project will be making A nice "white leather" Zune HD case.

Cat 5 a success

I tried again with cat5 and it worked Great. I will use cat 5 for my noise cancelling project and use the extra wire for baterries. I like The extra head room the cat5 gives me.

1 Step Forward 2 Steps Back

Today I got started with soldering cutting time and cost by using crappy wire from those god forsaken dollar store headphones. The wire was so crappy the wires melted trying to solder and not only that but they were so thin they snaped nearly instntely. I'll try again tommorow using some CAT 5 and hopefully it will come out better.

Craigslist Ballin

Okay last summer the excitement of my first real job made me go a little nuts with spending and I made some Foolish purchases. However a silver lining is now i have plenty collteral. With the upcoming Zune HD and In my previous post I mentioned that I had to get my hands on one, I now can sell all of my shamefully unwise spending and use it to buy yet again a piece of technology to be phased out by something better in 3 months(ahem iPhone) but a true gadget head like myself has come to terms withthat long ago. So now my only issue is safely selling using craigslist. One thing I will use to my advantage to prevent becoming a headline is meeting people at locations near law enforcement like hospitals and police stations. Let's all hope this goes well and I get enough money to buy me next time sucker.

First Blogged Project

My project is to make my own headphones. When I say head phone I don't mean Crappy O.E.M. ones i mean I'm fixing to make a relatively decent sounding pair. It's going to definitely take a little bit for a project as ambitious as I'm shooting for to be done. I plan on before the year ends making three pairs. The first pair a relatively low end on era style, the second pair a somewhat high end active noise cancelling set which will be carefully done and I expect to take a while. The third pair, a high quality and advanced wireless set using a 1" bass driver and a mid range and high driver. This set is going to utilize large noise isolating ear pads similar to ones used on the Sony MDR-XB500 headphones. The electronics can be done in one day with my skill level of electronics. The first milestone has been made. I purchased all of the drivers needed for the on-ear and noise cancelling sets. The electronics for the on earset can be whipped together in just five minutes. The first thing to do is solder any old LED onto the driver to give a nice back lit effect. After a gather more materials for the noise cancelling set testing and tuning (if all of the stars are aligned) will immediately begin. The second hardest part of this project is definitely the construction of the headset. I'm in the process of figuring out how they will be built. An aluminum construction is being thought about. There is no shortage scrap metal to be found in my basement alone all left to do is figure out how to cut it and bend it to fit my needs. This is alot to go through just to get Good sound from a Zune HD.

Trip to Best Buy

At best Buy I had a chance to try out a few new things most notably and relevent Wii Motion plus. The Wii motion plus worked and i could tell immediately. I could actually tell the controller was actually capture my movements in 3D space rather than detecting motions. The booth was set up ready to go with Wii Sports Resort. The first thing i tried was wakeboarding (having actually tried it this past week)I had a frame of reference to what it felt like and knew what it should act like. I was impressed by the intuitiveness of the new add on in the way that the presets motions were so good in this particular game it could be easily mistaken for true 1:1 motion. The game felt extremely natural and didn't feel as if i had to jerk the controller to get it to register the difference was day and night in this particular instance. the motion was smooth and easy. Next I tried basketball. This game was very well done. the motion capture actually registered like actually taking a shot in real life. Finally my favorite game Ping pong (or table tennis whatever) felt the most natural unlike other supposed ping pong simulators on Wii that i have played it felt like i was whipping the controller rather than actually doing what you would do in real life. This was the first time i actually enjoyed playing Wii.
I also had oppurtunity to test different headphones. I tried the extremely acclaimed as much as it is overpriced, Beats by D.R.E. The sound quality wasvery nice and i di enjoy it however i could never see paying more than $50 for headphones (I'm a Cheapskate) Let alone 300. First of all they cost more than the MP3 player itself and for that much they better do alot more than just play music. I Want more than a flashy package underneath that packaging i want bluetooth a remote control (more portability.) thats about all worth talking about.

HTC NVIDIA Tegra phone a possibility

I am excited for this because there is almost just enough evidence to confirm this. If this turns out as good as it sounds on paper I will be in line. However at the same time i cant forget about HTC's habit of refusing to include drivers and effectively crippling there phones. If this is an answer to Samsung's Omnia, then it Definately is a good one. Possibly 600 mhz processor and a WVGA screen touch screen. not too shabby at all if you ask me. But there is potential for them to screw this up like they did with the Qualcomm chipset where performance was crippled to cut costs. The fact that HTC had the opportunity to get a jump on the competition at the time(HTC kaiser was released the same year as the iphone with hardware well capable of being superior to iPhone) however the phone's showstopping video performance issue ruined a huge opportunity. I would Hope HTC plans on making this phone with 3d performance even if it hikes up the price an extra 20 dollars That was proven buy people paying $600 dollars for the iPhone. So we will have to see which company wants my money the most upcoming Q3 and 4 2009. I would love to own a tegra chipset in HTC flavor because of how happy I was with my HTC Juno (T-Mobile Shadow)do to the impressive build quality and all of the HTC proprietary features. However after seeing the impressive work Samsung put into The Omnia and new Omnia II, where the phone was pushed to it's full potential (too bad i can't exactly say that about all HTC products) Their phone might be the better performing of the two. It also helps that the Samsung phones i have seen in the past were impressive in performance. Finally Their is Motorola. I hope Moto brings their mojo with the Tegra chipset the same way they steadily deliver high performance high quality products. I f you don't believe me think of how many people you know that had razors and how much you wanted one. Now think about How now even a few years later razor isn't that bad a phone. So for now all i can do is speculate and believe me when these phones come out I'm gonna be all over them and unveil my true personality on my blog with my harsh and extremely critical reviews for the 3 people who will even read it to see.

NVIDIA Tegra chipset

This new powerful chipset is the inexpensive solution to 3D graphics issues in mobile devices. In the united states we can see the Tegra chipset utilized in the Microsoft Zune HD. I'm undecided on if i will buy the Zune HD but it is tempting i do want a product with this. The Zune HD will come in 32 gig and 16 gig at almost value price points of (Unconfirmed information)$220, and $280 U.S. Already sounds better to me than ipod touch. I just wish MS would just go ahead and add an antenna and make it a cell phone i would buy in a heart beat.
